Eisenhower Administration essays What role did the Eisenhower administration play in Civil Rights? During the 1950s race relations in the United States began to explode and the domestic tranquility caused years of injustice for African Americans. Eisenhower, the current president, entered office committed to Civil Rights in principle, and he pushed the issue in areas of federal authority. During Eisenhowers early years of office the public services in Washington were desegregated. But, beyond these two ideas of the Presidents philosophy inhibited vigorous action in enforcing the principle of Civil Rights. The first was his preference for state or local action over federal involvement, and second his doubt that laws could change racial attitudes. One famous case during this time Brown vs. Board of Education. Chief Justice Earl Warren handed down the doctrine that separate but equal in schools has no place. A year later the Court directed a full start toward compliance with Warrens doctrine. Eisenhower refused to take any part in leading white southerners toward complianc e. He felt the Courts decision set back progress at least fifteen years. Despite the fact Eisenhower wanted no part in desegregating schools, he did push for blacks the right to vote. He passed the first Civil Rights law passed since the Reconstruction. But, the irony of the situation showed that still in 1959 the Civil Rights Act still had not added a single southern black to voting rolls. Another incident that occurred during Eisenhowers Civil Rights role was the desegregation in Little Rocks Central High School. The principal called the National Guard in to prevent nine black students from entering after the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Eisenhower ordered paratroopers to protect the students and placed the National Guard on federal service the entire school year. ...

As a basic principle, dont have more than 6 main menu items. These will most often be something like: Home, About Us, Services/Rates, Testimonials, FAQ, and Contact Us. If you have a portfolio or samples, that will add a menu item. If you have a blog, that will add another menu item. Specialty websites might have different menu options but you should almost *never* have more than 8 in your list (my website pushes the limit)! Have more items? Create submenus! Thats what theyre there for. 2. Make all your menu items clickable (not just the sub-menus). Again, users expect to be able to click on things. If something looks like it should be a link, make it a link. Example: Services and Rates page. Even though your detailed information will be found under the submenu items for each service, create a simple page where people get sent if they click on the general Services Rates item. On that simple page, have links to each service. You might be surprised how this small thing will change the way users experience your site! 3. Make your logo (generally the top left corner of every page) a link to your home page. Users are starting to expect that! 4. Create a clickable menu, basically a table of contents, at the top of a long page (dont make people scroll down to find out whats there). This way people can click on the menu item and get sent to the place on the page with the information they need. This technique is used regularly in FAQs but is often overlooked on other types of pages. 5. Make your site as easy to edit as possible. There are always items that will change. You might offer new goods, change prices, add items to your portfolio, run new specials or cancel old ones. Create a structure for the site that can accommodate these changes. This requires thinking ahead about what categories of items you will need in the future (see #10)! This practice will save you time and money on web updates and will help you and your website stay organized. 6. Make it easy for users to find and use your contact information. In addition to your Contact Us main menu item, put your contact information clearly on the home page and make sure the Contact Us link is always easy to find. You dont want your users to have to work hard to find out how to contact you! 7. Do not have broken links or links to parts of your site that are under construction. If the link does not bring the user to anything useful, dont have a link there at all. 8. Running a special? Put it on every page. But dont make it scroll or pop out every time someone clicks on a new link or reads down a page. If you distract the viewer she is more likely to be annoyed by your persistent offer than to take advantage of it. 9. Have a lot to say? Is your text getting too long? Simply put, punishment is disrespectful treatment of a child that will result short- term cooperation but further behavior problems long-term. No child should have to endure such negative modification methods intended to humiliate them with a goal of teaching appropriate behavior. Sadly, however, some adults think they are doing what is best for the child. But what can a child possibly learn from hearing a parent say, If you hit your brother one more time, Im gonna spank you! The child interprets that message as if I hit him, then youre going to hit me. There is no valuable lesson being taught in such a situation. Thankfully, organizations such as NAEYC have set forth guidelines for appropriate teaching techniques for parents and educators to utilize at home and in classrooms. By taking the initiative to research alternatives to punishment, one would see the egative impact this has on children. Anger, aggression, damaged self-esteem, fear, hostility, resentment, and deceitfulness are Just a few of the ways children respond to the emotional, physical, and verbally abusive means of punishment they may experience in an environment of uninformed adults. Even though it may be unintentional, the results can be devastating. There are many ways that discipline can be positive and actually help children learn.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  7,000, is the number of people in the small town of Lyons, New York. Many people haven’t even heard of this town. Lyons is my hometown, and I will never forget it. I am graduating this year, and my friends as well as myself are moving out! We are all going to college at least an hour away from Lyons. Everyone in my school can’t wait to leave. They hate Lyons, and they say that there is nothing here for them. I believe just the opposite. There is a lot in Lyons to improve, but I will never leave forever. I am having a hard time just leaving this town to go to college. Everything is here, My family, my friends, my house and my school. That means more to me than anything in this world. Lyons isn’t exactly the hipest place to be, it’s sometimes even scary to walk the streets at night. I even remember my mother once saying that about fifteen years ago, she could leave the doors unlocked at night and not have to worry about anything. Now, you have to leave the doors locked in the daytime. I would change a lot of things about Lyons, but never change the way people help other people out in every situation. I would change the community in many ways. One way I would change Lyons is by adding more places for children and teenagers to hang out. As of right now, there is one community center where some people play basketball, but it is really run down, and there is not much to do. I haven’t even been there. One of the biggest problems in Lyons is that kids roam the streets all hours of the day, and I think that if we have something to help minimize that, that is all we need.

Designing an Evaluation Method Essay

  My primary health goal in the nation is to improve the overall health of the diabetes people by years 2020. Diabetes is a disease is that contributes significantly to death and disability among Chicagoans. The Healthy People 2020 objective is to reduce diabetes- related deaths to no more than 34 per 100,000 people (USDHHS, 2013). The concept of educational approaches would improve the diabetes disease knowledge of healthcare providers and also education approach promoting healthy lifestyle habits and patient empowerment is an effective strategy with the potential to decrease the development of complications related to diabetes as well as the socioeconomic costs of the disease (Gaglianalio & Etchegoyem, 2001). As a nurse educator, my responsibility is to provide patients with the most current and evidence- supported information to assist in the decision- making process. Providing the most current information to baccalaureate programs nursing students would prepare the next generation of nurses to have consistent evidence-based practice to educate their clients. My proposal of practicum project is focusing in improving the level of diabetes diseases process and manifestation knowledge in a baccalaureate nursing program. The recognizing objectives that would improve my approaches for attaining my goal as followed: At the end of this practicum experience I will be able to: 1-Develop a lesson plan that utilizes learner- centered strategies to engage the learners. 2- Create a lesson plan that prepares baccalaureate nursing students to care for patients with diabetes. 3-Develop a lesson plan that increases baccalaureate students’ knowledge of diabetes. Criteria needed to evaluate the practicum project The purpose of practicum project evaluation is to improve practicum project effectiveness and demonstrate accountability. Evaluation may be developmental, intended to deliver direction for the development and implementation of an outcome-oriented (Billings & Halstead, 2012). Evidence-based practice (EBP) is decision- making on the care delivery to patients, which is based on current identified and validated research evidence, consumers’ preferences, expert opinions and society expectation(Adams & Barron, 2010). This requires the baccalaureate nurses to make clinical decision pertaining to patient’s care. Therefore, the best clinical decision -making should be based on EBP with the intention to achieve quality patient outcome. The evidence or criteria need to evaluate my practicum project are followed. (1)Utilize current nursing literature related to program evaluation that focuses on comprehensive evaluation, rather than specific elements of the practicum project,(2)Utilization of recommended guidelines and having knowledge of the diabetes process will enable the evaluator to accurately interpret observations, evaluate whether the goals were achieved and whether the teaching methods used were appropriate and effective for the situation, (3) Acquire skills in peer observation; establish the context of the class session, and integration and interpretation of student evaluation feedback. How will success be determined? What are the benchmarks for each element of evidence and what constitutes â€Å"pass/fail†, etc.? A course evaluation is a significant part of managing a program because it points out if the learner’s needs are met or not. Success will be determined through evidence that measures outcomes of the activities, and indicators of program achievements. Benchmarks are used for the measure of a best practice. Benchmarking is the process of identifying benchmarks and applying them for performance improvement (Billings, 2007). The process benchmarking involves sharing successful program indicatives and learning from other’s success. Benchmark can be used in diabetes care and management, and patient education. Benchmark may evaluate the practicum project throughout the term of the evaluations by identifying a point for comparison that reflects student’s satisfaction of the entire course. Using benchmarks to assess processes, practices, and outcomes can provide comparative feedback that can guide the quality improvement process with diabetes patients and their caregivers. Evaluation methods during the practicum project During the evaluation, I will use the process indicators to help me provide feedback and determine if the activities implementing are progressing for desired outcomes. I will follow the Theory-Driven Model because this model provides information on not only the performance of evaluation but on how and why the evaluation achieves such a result (Billings & Hallstead, 2012). The significance of this model during the practicum project lesson is the development and articulation of a clear philosophy. Thus, this model will allow my project lesson process to flow from a theory- based evaluation of diabetes care and management, and education. Observations, checklists, pre and post-test scores will be used as an evidence for evaluation of the project. Tests examinations are a shared, cost- effect, and time effective method of testing knowledge acquisition both as students’ progress in the course and at the conclusion of the course and program (Gaberson & Oermann, 2009). During the evaluation, the theory will direct the evaluation process from identifying variables to be measured to the final report. Resources will be obtained from the nursing department or by the faculty own cost. Most nursing schools write a grant for resources needed. Formative evaluation strategy Frequent evaluations are essential when the learning process is complex and unfamiliar and when it is considering helpful to anticipate potential problems if the risk of failure is high (Billings & Halstead, 2012). I will create more opportunities for effective feedback and use collected formative data to improve the quality of practicum project. Evaluation activities such as continuous quality assessment lead to the improvement of the program and the achievement of excellence (Keating, 2011). The formative evaluation occur form the beginning to the end of the practicum project. Summative evaluation strategy I will perform evaluation of my practicum project toward the end of my second semester 2013 to provide evidence on the success or achievements of the project. I will use summative evaluations to develop best-practice models and to identify areas that require additional improvements for future my practicum project if there is any. Ghost’s Child Essay

Feather made the right choice, he should not have stayed with Maddy. Intro: Sonya Hartnett’s The Ghost’s Child reveals the mystifying story of Matilda’s remarkable journey up the mountain of life. Even though the departure of Feather pained Maddy emotionally, the overall outcome significantly boosted her emotional strength and confidence. Feather loved Maddy so much, but he knew he couldn’t change, so he had to do what was best for Maddy in order for her to be happy. The loss of Feather as well as the Fay encouraged Maddy to embark on many new adventures.At the end of Matilda’s glorious journey of life, she was, truly, happy. BP1: All Feather wanted was for Maddy to be happy, and the only way that was possible was to free her from herself by leaving her and letting her go. Maddy had thought that because of all the times he crept off to the beach, and to be with just the water and sand, that â€Å"Feather didn't care† about her, but it was not her, it was that Maddy was â€Å"less important than this strange, mysterious summoning thing†. Feather knew he couldn’t change his lifestyle to live with Maddy, and if he didn’t, he would continue to hurt her inside.The only way to satisfy them both was to leave. It was not the fact that Feather could not change for Maddy, but that he could not change enough for Maddy. Feather is willing to do anything for Maddy to â€Å"make her happy†. Even when he says that â€Å"it makes no difference† to him, it actually does, and he knows that if he does â€Å"move to the desert† with Maddy, they won’t be able to live happily together because of Feathers urge to get back to his old life. Maddy was holding Feather back by making him more civilized and changing him to be the opposite of the person she fell in love with.After living with Feather for quite a while, Maddy â€Å"still called him Feather, but it was easy to forget why† because of the new clothes she made him wear and his hair was washed and looked smart, and he had just lost the â€Å"strange smoky shimmer that swam from him† like the sun reflecting off a gold fish, in clear blue water. This shows that Feather left Maddy, not only to help her be happy, but also to let himself be happy. BP2: When Feather left Maddy, he freed her from the windowless â€Å"box† inside her head, and enabled her to live life without worrying about love or oss, and as a result Maddy proceeded to have many great experiences that heavily influenced her life. The loss of Feather strived Maddy to actually do something with her life, rather than dwelling on all of the bad things that have happened. Whether Feather meant to or not, he enabled Maddy to fight for what she wanted, and actually do the things she wanted to do right now. The â€Å"island of stillness† gave Maddy many new experiences and helped her learn a lot from them. The most vital thing that Maddy learns on the island is that â€Å"love is not the strongest or most important thing in the world†.She accepted the fact that she had lost the Fay, and now was losing Feather. After learning this she can properly move on with her life and leave Feather and all their memories together in the past. Maddy going to help with the war was a very significant experience as it gave her the epiphany that she wanted to be an eye doctor for the remainder of her career. She was inspired by the fact that the blind injured men in the war had lost the biggest thing of all, â€Å"they had lost the sight of beautiful things†.This tells us that one bad experience, can often lead to several good life changing experiences BP3: In the end, all of Matilda's great journeys and adventures love and loss, finally enabled her to accept that the loss of Feather did help her learn to be happy. Love can be brutal and leave you injured, but eventually we learn that we can move past this and learn fr om our experiences to help us become wiser more knowledgeable. Through all the amazing good times, and the ever-lasting bad times, all Matilda's memories made up an overall happy life.After the island of stillness and the war, Maddy was living her perfect life, a job she wanted to do and nothing to worry about. It is strange to think of the outcome if she was still living with Feather, and if she would be doing what she was doing now. In the end, all alone â€Å"Matilda was standing on the mountain top, and looking back along the path she’d walked and she was satisfied with what she saw. † Feather leaving, not only hurt Maddy, but more importantly it taught her valuable lessons in life and gave her many amazing experiences.Sonya Hartnett was trying to explain that love can give you as much pain as it does happiness and to really experience great love, you must first experience the bad times as well as the good. Even if something bad does happen and you end up losing th e one thing you love most, you must accept the fact that it has happened and that you cannot change it, and use it as a learning experience. No matter what happens, you have to learn to move on and enjoy all of the good things in life. As Matilda's eyes saw the last things they would ever see, â€Å"on her face were the remnants of a smile†.
